Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then found multiple other vandalized cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; officials are currently not cognizant of any harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for information.
An important representative commented the vandalism left him speechless and had to be addressed quickly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine people by a shooter targeting people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
