Chelsea Manager Maresca Rejects Man City Speculation as Pure Rumour
Chelsea gaffer Enzo Maresca has branded recent reports linking him with a move to Manchester City as "100% speculation".
The Italian manager, who once served as Pep Guardiola's assistant in Manchester, responded to the ongoing rumours about his future.
Maresca, appointed Chelsea boss in the summer of 2024, has a contract that runs through the end of the decade, with a possible extension option.
"It doesn't affect me at all because I know that is completely unfounded," Maresca said. "And at this moment, there is little room for these kind of things."
He went on to explain, Primarily, because I have a contract here for several more years. And my focus, I said many times, is solely on this club and I'm honoured to be here. But again, it's rumour. One week ago I was linked with Juventus in Italy. So I ignore it because I know that is without foundation."
Chelsea, currently sitting fourth in the top flight, are scheduled to face Newcastle United on Saturday in a 12:30 GMT kick-off.
Strain Following Previous Remarks
Maresca's latest statement follow after he described a recent two-day spell as his most difficult since joining Chelsea.
Those original words had sparked considerable talk of a potential disagreement between the manager and the club's ownership hierarchy.
When asked if he had discussed matters with the Chelsea's leadership, Maresca responded, "We are in the same building, so we speak about different things. But about the post-Everton media session, no."
The manager however affirmed he would definitely stay at the club next season and urged supporters to "continue to support the team".
In brighter news, Maresca revealed that injured forwards Liam Delap and Estevao Willian could return ahead of schedule, possibly available for a match against Aston Villa on 27 December.
Perspective: Unresolved Tension
The apparent disconnect between Maresca and the club's hierarchy remains as an open wound that still cause concern.
While there has been no deepening of the matter in the open, there has also been no resolution offered, leaving the disagreement unresolved.
The mood during the manager's media briefings has grown notably awkward, leading to concerns it could impact what has up to now been a promising start to the campaign.
