Iran Claims Strike on US Base in Bahrain, During Regional Military Operations.
Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone near the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any destruction is not yet known and the American officials has remained silent.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - reported they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was targeting US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the offensive on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on areas linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the leadership.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the UAE stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with great effectiveness and shot down a series of missiles," it added.
It said missile fragments landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
