Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he lost control at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before rotating through the gravel trap, and was fortunate to get away with just a minor contact of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the session, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner leading to the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in P19, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
