Liverpool's Manager Offers No Excuses and Vows to Plot Route Out of Slump

Arne Slot declared he needed to “examine my own performance” following Liverpool endured a 6th defeat in 7 Premier League games on their own turf against Forest and affirmed he would find a way out of the title holders' slump.

Forest, in the relegation zone prior to the match, produced the biggest win at Anfield in their club records as Liverpool slipped to an eighth defeat in 11 matches in all competitions. The British record signing, the Swedish striker, was again unnoticeable and the home side argued the defender's first goal should have been ruled out for similar reasons to Virgil van Dijk’s disallowed effort against Manchester City prior to the international break. But the manager conceded the responsibility stopped with him and offered no alibis.

“Nobody wishes to listen to me now speaking about refereeing decisions if you lose 3-0 in your own stadium to Nottingham Forest,” stated the Reds' boss. “I ought to examine my own role first and my squad, but it demonstrates you how a goal can alter the momentum of a match. Before I was just hoping for us to score a strike. Later we hardly generated any chances.

“Of course there is a path forward, especially with the talented players we have. Regardless if you win or lose when you reflect you are always thinking: ‘Where can we improve, where can we adjust?’ but that is something else from questioning yourself.

“I want to stress I am accountable for the current defeats. You are responsible when you are winning but also liable when you are losing. I can not come up with sufficient excuses for us to have the results we have. That is not good enough and I am responsible for that.”

The team's display fell apart as Slot made multiple offensive substitutions when pursuing the match. “It was the same away at Forest the previous campaign,” he remarked. “I substituted the French defender out and put on [Diogo] Jota and he scored immediately to equalize at 1-1. At that time it was courageous, now it’s probably unwise.”

The Anfield side last lost back-to-back at Anfield Premier League fixtures against Nottingham Forest in the sixties. The most recent occasion they lost back-to-back top-flight games by a three-goal margin was in 1965.

Slot said: “It was extremely poor. Playing at home, losing 3-0 no matter which opponent you face is a very, very bad result. Surprising if you consider the first half-hour of the game. I did not witness us producing so many chances in the opening 30 minutes maybe the whole campaign, and the initial occasion they entered in our box they found the back of the net.

“It did not happen at City, but in all other fixture we have been the dominant team and were capable to generate chances. Lately it is almost constantly that we miss our chances and the ones we concede go in.”
