Misleading Allegations on Social Media Damaged Brigitte Macron's Quality of Life, Child Testifies to the Tribunal

Brigitte Macron's child, Tiphaine Auzière, has told a Paris court that inaccurate assertions online—including the baseless theory that Brigitte Macron had a male birth identity—have negatively impacted her mother's quality of life.

She, a legal professional, appeared as a witness in the legal proceedings of 10 individuals accused of digital bullying directed at the first lady.

Consequences on Personal Routine

She explained that her mother now worries constantly about how she looks, such as her attire to how she stands, as a result of the fear that each snapshot could be manipulated to fuel negative campaigns.

"The outcome is that she systematically needs to be careful to her clothing, her posture, regardless of she's doing in her daily life," she told the court.

Those on Trial and Allegations

Eight men and two women, between 41 and 60 years old, are in court for online harassment. Several had modest digital reach, while the rest were more visible.

All is accused of spreading defamatory content about the first lady's personal life. Among them, this extended to linking the age gap with her husband to hurtful comparisons.

If found responsible, they may be sentenced to as much as 24 months in jail.

Consequences for Loved Ones

She, a family member from Brigitte Macron's previous marriage, explained how the baseless rumors have caused a "deterioration of her well-being" and a "worsening of her quality of life".

She testified, "Scarcely a day goes by when someone avoids discussing the issue to her."

Auzière highlighted the impact on the family, for example her grandchildren being exposed to malicious statements like "Your grandmother is lying" or "Your grandmother is actually a man".

"She is unsure how to stop it," Auzière remarked. "She's not elected, she never asked for anything, and she is constantly facing these assaults."

Judicial Proceedings Background

The Paris trial is the latest phase in a wider judicial fight addressing the false claim that she was transgender.

They have pursued a case in America for defamation against a political commentator who amplified the theory.

The lawsuit clarifies that the allegation is entirely inaccurate and notes that the individual referenced is really her brother.

Accused Individuals' Statements

In court, some of the accused denied the accusations.

  • An individual, now a deputy mayor, asserted he "had no purpose to hurt anyone" and referred to his posts as satirical.
  • A well-known publicist argued that his social media shares were meant to be "irony" and voiced worry that the trial could undermine "free speech".
  • An art gallery owner said he posted information as he believed it was an international matter with "consequences for France".

Relationship Background

The false theory concerning the first lady's sex spread partly because their union has long been a topic of comment on the internet.

The first lady, who is significantly older than her husband, originally knew the future president when she was a teacher at his secondary school.

Their bond evolved through drama activities, and they entered into marriage in 2007, following Brigitte Macron's separation.

She concluded her statement by expressing that the baseless rumors have created a "whirlwind that does not cease" for her mother.
