New York Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the player will recover well after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during a recent discussion.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he is expected to recover fully.”

The coach did not know when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where his condition is described as in critical but steady condition.

“Not certain at the moment,” he added. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, he felt really upbeat. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and he’s talking that way.”

NYPD released video stills earlier this week of a man sought in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident is still being looked into and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. No one else was hurt were reported.

The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday near the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, 29, was admitted to a medical center after suffering a wound to the stomach, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts “constantly” since the news broke. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a child.

“My initial concern, he has a new baby,” Glenn noted. “And I’m thinking about his wife, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, that I won’t detail, but I am pleased that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd hasn’t played during the current season, after joining the team, after his season was cut short due to injury on August 18 with a shoulder issue that involved surgical repair.

Boyd came to New York as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was projected as an important component of an improved special teams group under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a practice session on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn said. “In fact, he comes to the games all the time. He’s fully engaged. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, from Texas, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of Texas University in 2019. He later played for Arizona in last year and later was with the Texans later that season. Boyd signed a one-year contract valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
