The Latest Casual Game Mode Sparks Intense Discussions Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers launched a new game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes several notable changes:
- Each team includes only 8 real players, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives more options for players seeking alternative ways to enjoy the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 fans are mad.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while another details all the issues they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Criticisms and Community Feedback
All that said, players have valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the community compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. Another describes this addition as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
