The Reform UK leader Accuses Educators of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Racial Topics
The political figure stated that teachers would go on strike within weeks a success at the polls for his party, charging that they are “harming young minds” by instructing children that black pupils are victims and white children oppressors.
During an event for a Michigan-based religious institution, Farage outlined his perspective on British schools, claiming that the “radical left-wing” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I’m anticipating a teachers’ strike very quickly after winning the next general election,” Farage commented in response to questions.
“They are corrupting young minds. They instruct children to feel guilt about their nation. They inform an eight-year-old black child that he is a victim and a white child of the same age that he is a perpetrator. They create division, instead of fostering unity. They promote this harmful mindset.”
In response to Farage’s claims, Daniel Kebede rejected the notion that the schools were under Marxist influence as “nonsense”. He pointed out that any strikes must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and questioned whether Reform would attack these right after taking office.
“The politician has crafted his political career on dog-whistle politics and currently, like Trump, he is lining up teachers and their organizations for a fight,” Kebede stated.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. I don’t – and nor does my union – push critical race theory as he claims … If he were to lead the government he would undermine state services, including education … and the outcome would be catastrophic for students and learning.”
Reform, which is leading the polls by about 10 points, has provided limited specifics on a proposed education policy and seems not to have appointed an education spokesperson.
However, Farage’s remarks indicated the group would reform the educational framework. He said: “We face an enormous task with education – truly monumental. And, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it requires years, years to turn this around.”
Farage expressed that younger generations are receptive to critical thinking, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Paying tribute to Charlie Kirk, he commented: “My goal for schooling is to teach critical thinking – to educate individuals that multiple perspectives exist and they should decide for themselves rather than what’s happening now where views are labeled good or bad. It’s a massive job in both Britain and America.”
Reform has previously clashed with a major educators’ organization, after Kebede called the party “far right and racist” and dismissed Farage as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
Farage has accused Kebede of being “a self-declared Marxist” … an individual intent that young minds be corrupted at school, their thinking tainted about everything to do with this country” and has argued that the union is trying to indoctrinate teenagers against Reform.
Almost one million people are employed in education in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The leading teachers’ organization has about 450,000 members.
Countrywide walkouts over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 led to significant interruptions in schools and extensive missed instruction for students.
At the US event, the Reform leader also pledged to help spread the online educational material of the Christian college in the UK. He stated such groups were “key to resistance”, noting: “I mean this. I will help attract vast numbers of youth to your online courses. I make that commitment tonight and I will follow through.”
The institution, a small private Christian college, provides complimentary classes. Its website states: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is vital for well-being and to perpetuate the blessings of freedom. It offers these excellent programs for free to every interested learner.”
