Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is what Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
